my portfolio teacher went on a rant about video games and philosophy. apparently space invaders is about power control and militarism, pac man is a metaphor for america (the maze is our manifest destiny, we eat everything in our path and feel invincible, all while avoiding the ghosts of our past, such as slavery and genocide) but asteroids is where he got to me. you’re born alone, you die alone. you’re up against these huge rocks trying to smash you (problems) with hardly any defenses. when you try to speed up to get away, you just come at it from a new direction where there are new problems waiting for you. it doesn’t matter how hard you try, you’ll end up dying alone, crushed under a rock.
yeah. that was exactly what i didn’t want to hear, but i still loved hearing this cynical man get worked up about games/life.
